Consistent heat from the ground—all year round
A geothermal heating system (also known as a ground-source heat pump) harnesses the solar energy that naturally accumulates in the top layer of soil. Heat is drawn through fluid-filled pipes buried at a depth of approximately 1 meter and transferred to an indoor heat pump, which heats your domestic hot water and radiators or underfloor heating.
Since the ground temperature at a depth of 1 meter remains stable (between 5 and 10 degrees) throughout the year, geothermal heating provides extremely high and consistent efficiency—even on the coldest winter days.
Horizontal Ground Loops (The Standard Solution)
The pipes are buried about 1 meter deep on your property. This is the most common and cost-effective type of geothermal heating in Denmark.
Best for: Single-family homes, country estates, and former farms with plenty of yard space.
High-quality heat pumps with a long service life
The ground loops themselves have a lifespan of up to 50 years, while the indoor heat pump typically lasts 18–22 years. This makes geothermal heating one of the most long-term investments you can make in your home.

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions About Geothermal Heating
A complete geothermal heating system with horizontal ground loops for a standard single-family home typically costs between 120,000 and 200,000 DKK, including sales tax, excavation work, the heat pump, and installation. The price depends on the size of the house and access conditions in the yard.
For a standard 150 m² house, approximately 300–400 meters of ground-loop tubing typically needs to be buried. This requires an open yard area of about 300–500 m² that is free of large trees and paved surfaces.
Geothermal heating is more expensive to install than air-to-water systems because it requires digging in the yard. On the other hand, geothermal heating is slightly more efficient in the winter, has a longer lifespan, and has no visible outdoor unit that might be an eyesore in the yard.
The hoses are buried at a depth of approximately 90 to 120 cm. At this depth, the soil is not affected by night frost, and the grass on top can continue to grow normally afterward.
